Dawn comes late in December. Went for a walk. Saw a fox. And the old 19th-century bridge with lanterns glowing. Wrote this in my head.

Winter dark, winter cold
Freezing footsteps, silver-gold
Shadow-foxes slipping by
In the gloom I hear them cry.

Winter land, winter sky
Metal boxes speeding by
Up ahead, through the snow
Warming light from lanterns glow.

And while you're sleeping safe in bed
I got December in my head
All creatures waiting for the light
Blind men debating wrong and right.

Bridge of light I need to know
Where's the fight? Which way to go?
Bridge of light I need to feel
Something real . . .
